SPX Module

Internet Address Regitration Automation for Service Providers

Today, operators are aware that because of its scarcity, the IP address becomes strategic information that has to be controlled. SPX module has been developed to facilitate the management of IP addresses capabilities. It proposes to optimize fragmentation of addresses ranges and to automate registration procedures toward RIRs —Regional Internet Registrar: RIPE NCC, ARIN, APNIC, AFRINIC—.

Automatic registration to RIRs

One of the operators’ activities is to assign Internet IP addresses to their customers. These assignments are governed by rules defined by Regional Internet Registry (RIR) to which the operators must refer to. In order to respond, EfficientIP has directly integrated recording procedures of IP addresses and of domain names in the Service Provider eXtension (SPX) module. This integration allows the industrialization of the associated administration processes. Graphical assistants help operators to fill out official registration forms and send them through automatic requests to Regional Internet Registry (RIR).

Importation of the Registrar database

The SPX module enables to import and store objects based on IP addresses, persons or domain names from the RIR database. The SPX module checks conformity of imported data and detects incoherencies between address pools and the referential of the operator addressing. All exchanges —mails and automatic recording— with RIR are stored and archived in order to allow administrators to get specific information in case of problem or audit.

Overall management of Internet registration

While declaring new IP address pools to the RIR, the SPX module checks if this new attribution does not exceed the operator Assignment Window (AW). Attribution requests validated or under validation by RIR can be displayed from the graphical interface showing the current recording status. The SPX module manages the creations and modifications and is also able to delete declarations stored in RIR database.

Multi-maintainer management

The SPX module is able to manage public addressing plans from several operators in a unified way. For international projects, the SPX module guarantees the simultaneaous declaration of several maintainers providing address pools. Thus, it ensures the specificity of rules defined by each maintainer.

Customers’ resources management

The SPX module enables the modelization and the qualification of the customers’ IP resources by using particular information. By the full integration to your Business System (BSS) and Operations Support System (OSS), the SPX module guarantees a strong IP addressing and DNS referencing integration on the operators’ service delivery.
