The IDC 2020 Global DNS Threat Report survey evaluated how well companies were prepared to protect against attacks on their DNS services. When polled, 42% of the respondents stated they relied on IPS or firewalls rather than having a dedicated DNS security solution in place. According to an IDC analyst, “traditional security solutions are not the right answer to protect critical DNS infrastructure from attacks. This is a real case of the wrong answer to a real problem.”
While existing traditional security systems (more specifically DNS filtering security solutions) offer a first level of protection against DNS attacks, they are not efficient enough and can even be dangerous if used inappropriately. It’s time to look at new ways to mitigate DNS attacks.
